We emphasize the development of a strong foundation in civil engineering theories and practices, while also encouraging our students to engage with the latest advancements and emerging trends in the field.

Our graduates are not only proficient in planning, designing, and constructing vital projects, but also excel in maintaining essential infrastructure such as buildings, roadways, bridges, and water resource structures. Through this, they address the pressing needs of our country’s growing infrastructure.

We are committed to offering a holistic academic experience that goes beyond the classroom. Alongside our comprehensive curriculum, we actively promote co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, field and industrial project visits, and project-based learning. This immersive approach ensures our students are well-rounded, industry-ready professionals.

Our department is bolstered by a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members, each specializing in diverse areas of civil engineering. We also take pride in our state-of-the-art laboratories, thoughtfully designed to cater to outcome-based technical education and equip our students with practical skills that meet contemporary engineering challenges.

As the Head of the Civil Engineering Department at Khwopa College of Engineering, I take immense pride in the achievements and progress we have made. I remain dedicated to guiding our department towards excellence and setting a benchmark that aligns with global standards. Together, let us build a future that is resilient, sustainable, and transformative.

                                                                                                       -  Er. Aanand Kumar Mishra

Objectives

We aim to produce competent and socially responsible civil engineers who can contribute to sustainable development and the advancement of civil infrastructure, both within Nepal and globally.

Intended Learning Outcomes

The Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) for the Bachelor of Civil Engineering (BE Civil) program at the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Tribhuvan University (TU), are designed to equip graduates with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to excel as civil engineers while addressing societal and global challenges. Based on available information and the structure of the program, here are the key ILOs:

  • Technical Proficiency: Graduates will demonstrate a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering principles to analyze, design, and construct civil infrastructure systems such as roads, bridges, buildings, dams, and water supply networks.
  • Practical Application: Students will be able to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios through hands-on experience in planning, designing, construction, and maintenance of physical and natural environments, including areas like structural, geotechnical, transportation, environmental, and water resources engineering.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Graduates will develop the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex engineering problems using modern tools, techniques, and software relevant to civil engineering.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Graduates will possess effective oral and written communication skills to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, ensuring successful project execution and professional interaction.
  • Ethical and Social Responsibility: Students will understand and apply ethical principles, recognizing their moral responsibility toward society, sustainability, and the environment in their engineering practices.
  • Global Awareness and Adaptability: Graduates will be acquainted with current and emerging global issues in civil engineering, enabling them to adapt to technological advancements and evolving industry needs.
  • Lifelong Learning and Professional Development: Graduates will have the capability to pursue an engineering license, engage in lifelong learning, and advance their education or career through further studies or entrepreneurial roles in civil engineering.

These outcomes align with the program’s focus on blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills, as evidenced by its curriculum, which includes lab work, field visits, and project-based learning over a four-year, eight-semester structure. The emphasis on ethical responsibility and global awareness ensures graduates are prepared to contribute meaningfully to Nepal’s infrastructure development while addressing broader societal needs.

Curriculum

The Civil Engineering Department offers a diverse and dynamic selection of elective courses for final-year students, designed to align with the Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering curriculum.
